Spike Systems

Spike systems are a very effective and permanent protection against birds landing and roosting. They are a very good deterrent against pigeons and gulls but are not recommended for sparrows or starlings. We offer a wide selection of spike designs and styles for use on ledges, signs, ridges, beams, pipes, parapets, etc. All Huck spike systems have square cut wires to avoid injury to birds.

INSTALLATION

Where spike systems are to be installed, the surface must be properly prepared. Ensure all surfaces are clean and dry; remove all dirt, bird droppings, loose and flaking paint, old adhesive, grease and oil. A low modulus neutral cure silicone such as Siroflex is recommended for polycarbonate bases. Each tube of adhesive should be sufficient to fix a run of 8-12m of spike system. Gaps between adjacent rows of spikes or between spikes and back walls should not exceed
65mm [2.5”] for pigeons and 100mm [4”] for gulls. Angled wires are more difficult to penetrate and the closer together they are the better the protection. Tips of angled wires should slightly overhang the front edge of the surface to prevent the birds landing.
